How it all started . . .
My story
Ever since I can remember, I’ve enjoyed baking. Whether it was curiously watching my mother bake or sneaking a dip of the tasty cookie dough when my mother wasn’t watching, baking has been in my life since, well, forever.
Growing up, baking has always been something I would do with my mother. Whether it was oatmeal cookies or banana bread, it meant I could spent time with her. But baking evolved into something more for me. As I started university, baking became my escape from the stress of exams and papers, it became my stress reliever.
When I started nursing school in 2016, baking was on the back burner, something I’d do when I wanted to try something new, or I was too stressed to think about studying. Then, the pandemic hit in 2020, and baking became something more. It was something I could do to occupy myself. I would make cookies for my friends, and a seed was planted.
What if I could sell my cookies?
I started Kiki Bakes in December of 2020 on Instagram. Since then, I’ve been slowly growing my following and learning many new skills along the way.
In May/June of 2022, I did my first market, Artfest 2022 in Pickering, Ontario. This was a huge step for me. I learned a lot about selling in person at a market. It was so fun to meet my long-time followers, new ones, and make friends with other vendors along the way. Artfest was my first, but won’t be the last.
Baked with care
Over the years, I have taught myself different techniques and skills through the lovely world of google and youtube.
I consider my specialty to be cookies, of any kind! I love mixing the ingredients together and wondering what the final product would look like. There is so much you can do with a few simple ingredients, so much variation as well.
Sugar cookies are a lot of fun for me to bake and decorate, as there are so many different cutters out there and so many different themes and ideas to choose from!
A few other tasty goods I can bake include brownies, fried donuts or beignets, cupcakes, mini cakes, muffins, meringues, and more!
If you are interested, definitely reach out, and we’ll discuss what you want and how I can make that for you.
“I’ve tasted almost every cookie and cupcake flavour Kiki Bakes has to offer, but if I had to choose a favourite, it would be the oatmeal chocolate chip. They are all so yummy, way better than store-bought.”
